I’m an expert on tools.
Growing up, my dad had every tool Sears sold. Table saws, radial arm saws, wood lathe, drill press, band saw, grinders, routers, automotive tools. You name it, we had it. We did all our own carpentry. I helped gut and rebuild two kitchens and three bathrooms before I was out of high school. In middle school we paved one quarter of the back yard with a huge cement patio with cement we mixed ourselves. We did all our own automotive work too, and I’ve passed that on to my son who is now an ASE certified Master Technician who has a degree in automotive technology.
Part of being a man is building things or fixing things.
This site is all about helping you to find the right tool for the right job. If you are like me, you get frustrated trying to get that one thing done, to just get that last bolt off, busting knuckles and wasting time. Whether it’s carpentry, lawns or cars you can find out about it here.
I review these tools and tell you where you can find them. Just a little disclaimer here… if you decide to click through to the seller of that tool and actually buy it, I do get a very small percentage commission from the seller. It keeps the lights on at BTFM (Best Tools For Men).
One other thing – your best tool is your mind.
Scattered in with the product reviews are articles on building up the tool set in your mind to be successful at whatever you do. That is something I’m giving to you for free. If you never buy a thing I’d at least like to give you something of lasting value to make you a better you.
Hi, I’m Jeff Arnall. I’m a parallel entrepreneur, by that I mean that I have, at any given time, several businesses running with more in the pipeline, but to put it in the simplest terms, my “brand” is that I’m an online educator. I get my kicks from learning new things and presenting that knowledge in an easy to digest format. I like giving people something of value that helps them.
The people I’m most interested in helping are men. Men are portrayed today as anything ranging from helpless fool to a dangerous creeper. Society is anti-man and I’m doing my small part to fight against that. Several generations of men have been cooked in anti-masculine propaganda starting as small children and continuing into their adult years.
Like I said, I’m a teacher from a line of teachers. I set out to be an English teacher and writer, but the other teachers in the family, working in the disaster that is public education, persuaded me to choose another path. While I didn’t become a professional teacher, I have found myself teaching and writing instructional materials in nearly every job I’ve had. I’m a teacher by nature, not by training.
The other thing about me is that I’m an autodidact. I’m a self-taught person. If I could get you to change in just one thing about yourself, it would be to get you to be a self-taught person. Learning doesn’t stop when you leave school, in fact it is just beginning, and often you are unlearning the crap you were taught in formal schooling.
Just a few of my experiences are:
- Delivering blood and guts (blood and transplant organs) to hospitals.
- Graphic designer (old school pre-MacIntosh days).
- Database builder.
- Steel worker.
- Project manager.
- I’ve cleaned shit out of drains, dug ditches, poured lots of cement, laid a few bricks. Scraped knuckles working on cars. I know what it’s like to get hot and dirty as well as work behind a desk for years.
I can relate to people from a lot of different backgrounds because I’ve been there.
